Truck Accident Delays Traffic in Cumberland County
Cumberland County, TN (September 25, 2020) A single vehicle accident occurred in Cumberland County around 4 a.m. that delayed traffic but fortunately did not result in any injuries. Law enforcement reports that a United States Postal Service tractor trailer was traveling west around the 313 mile marker on Interstate 40 when the truck’s driver axle broke and caused the vehicle to exit the road. The truck’s rear double trailer then flipped onto its side causing the tractor to jackknife. Fortunately the driver was properly restrained at the time of the accident, which helped to avoid injuries.
One of the primary causes of tractor trailer are jackknifes, which occurs when the trailers of semi-trucks skid towards the cabs of a truck at a 90-degree angle. Jackknife accidents are caused by several factors including excessive speeding, following other vehicles too closely, and fatigued or intoxicated drivers.
