Tractor-Trailer Causes Power Line Accident

shutterstock_1708097476

Crossville, TN (November 20, 2020)  An oversized tractor-trailer pulled down power lines on Interstate Drive close to Save-A-Lot on November 20th. As a result, motorists who passed through the area were advised to exercise caution. It remains uncertain whether anyone was injured in this accident as well as the extent of property damage that occurred.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that utility poles are one of the most commonly struck stationary objects on the road. In 2018, utility poles represented 12% of the objects involved in fixed-object crash deaths.

One of the deadliest aspects of power line accidents is that fallen or broken power lines can remain energized even if they do not appear to be. If your vehicle comes into contact with a downed power line and you are safely outside the vehicle, you should remain at least several yards from the vehicle. If a vehicle comes into contact with a downed power line and you are still inside the vehicle, you should remain where you are until emergency workers can arrive and instruct you on how to most safely exit the vehicle.
