Three Abandoned Dogs Attack Woman in Knoxville
Knoxville, TN (March 4, 2021) Knoxville law enforcement is investigating three dogs that attacked a woman in Knoxville on March 4th.
The police report that a man saw three dogs running loose around Ingersoll and Martin Mill Pike and that these dogs had charged at the man’s mother and tore her jeans. When law enforcement arrived, they noticed a dog running towards a road and a man running after it. A vehicle was then seen letting three adult dogs as well as three or four puppies out. The adult dogs were later located on Martin Mill Pike in the middle of the road.
Around this time, one of the dogs jumped over a fence and chased a woman. The woman jumped over the other side of the fence when the other three dogs began attacking her. These dogs later turned on a police officer while the woman defended herself with a piece of wood. Law enforcement later called an ambulance for the woman, who was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Animal control soon arrived and was able to capture one of the dogs. Overnight, one of the dogs was struck and killed by a vehicle. When crews tried to pick up the deceased dog, they found a third dog guarding the animal.
After receiving an additional call of a dog running loose, the officers were contacted by the dogs’ owner. The owner was later able to locate and capture the third dog.The woman has since been cited with three counts of animals running at large, two counts of dangerous, two counts of cruelty of animals, and three counts of no rabies tags.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found that 4.5 million dog bites occur in the United States each year.
