Suspected Drunk Driver Kills Pedestrian in Tennessee – Victims of Knoxville Pedestrian Accidents: Know Your Rights Under Tennessee Personal Injury Laws

Pedest7

There is no doubt that every Knoxville resident that has a driver’s license knows that it is absolutely illegal, extremely risky, and potentially fatal to drive a motor vehicle while being intoxicated or drunk on drugs or alcohol. However, the sad truth of the matter is that despite the clear letter of the law, the outreach from DUI-prevention advocacy groups, and common sense, drunk drivers plague the streets of East Tennessee far more often than they should. Of course, when DUI drivers share the road with other cars, an accident may happen. However, the situation may be even more deadly when a DUI driver crosses paths with pedestrians on their walking route. A recent pedestrian accident in Knoxville that involved a suspected drunk driver underscores this point, and provides an opening for a discussion about what rights and options Knoxville pedestrian accident victims have under Tennessee law.

According to local news reports, on Thursday, September 19, at around 9:00 p.m., a Knoxville driver was involved in a suspected drunk driving car accident that left one pedestrian dead. The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report on the deadly accident reveals that 45-year-old Aldo Weddington, of Knoxville, was suspected to have been driving under the influence (and without a driver’s license) when he hit and killed a person who was traveling on foot on Murphy Road. Weddington is believed to have been driving east on Murphy road in a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox when he crashed into the pedestrian victim at the intersection of Shannon Valley Farms Boulevard. Weddington’s Equinox is reported to eventually have “come to a rest in the roadway” and he was arrested. He now faces criminal charges. The pedestrian involved in the drunk driving car accident, identified by the Tennessee Highway Patrol as 65-year-old Alexandre Azarenok of Tennessee, died at the scene of the accident.

Rights and Options of Knoxville Pedestrian Accident Victims under Tennessee Personal Injury Laws

It is important for victims of pedestrian accidents to know that they may be entitled to compensation for their injuries and losses under Tennessee personal injury laws if they were injured by a drunk or negligent driver. Under Tennessee personal injury laws, victims may be entitled to recover money damages for things like medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, property damage, and more.
