Knox County, TN (February 1, 2021) One person was killed on February 1st in a single-vehicle crash that occurred in South Knox County. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 8400 block of Martin Mill Pike around 12:30 a.m. to discover that the passenger of the vehicle had been killed in the crash. The vehicle’s driver was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and details about his condition have not yet been released. Due to the crash, the road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that traffic fatalities are a leading cause of deaths in the United States. These accidents are even the primary cause of nonnatural fatalities for U.S. citizens who are residing or traveling abroad. The biggest factor related to car accident fatalities is distracted driving. While cell phones are the most common distraction, some other behaviors known to take the attention of motorists off the road include playing with the radio, reaching for something in the vehicle, or eating while driving.
