Motorcyclist Killed in Alcoa Highway Accident
Alcoa, TN (October 13, 2020) A motorcyclist died on October 13th after he collided with a pickup on Alcoa Highway around 7:45 pm close to Topside Road. A motorcyclist was traveling south on Alcoa, while a pickup truck driver was traveling northbound with the intention of turning left onto Topside Road. The intersection, however, lacks a signal. As a result, the motorcyclist collided with the other driver’s pickup. The pick up truck was not injured, but the motorcyclist later passed away at the scene of the accident. Details about the accident are still under investigation.
The Insurance Information Institute has found that in 2017, 5,172 motorcyclists died in motorcycle crashes. Motorcycle crashes are often more serious than passenger vehicle accidents because motorcyclists are not nearly as well protected as the occupants of cars and trucks. Some of the most common causes of deadly motorcycle crashes include intoxicated drivers, speeding by motorcyclists or passenger vehicle operators, riding between two lanes, left turn crashes, unsafely switching lanes, sudden stops, passenger vehicles that are thrown up suddenly and without warning, and failure of either one or multiple systems in a motorcycle.
