Law Enforcement Vehicle Struck in Multi-County Chase
Knoxville, TN (September 6, 2020) A woman in Loudon County was recently arrested following a high-speed police chasethrough several counties. The motorist was driving at a high rate and weaving between traffic lanes on Martel Road shortly before 11 p.m. on September 6th. After law enforcement attempted to pull over the driver, she left the scene. Both Loudon and Knox County law enforcement pursued the motorist as she passed through northern Loudon County and into Knox County. Law enforcement tried to block the vehicle on Choto Road and as a result the motorist struck the police vehicle and forced it off the road. Even though the chase was called off due to the driver’s erratic patterns, shortly after the driver was located by law enforcement officers in Turkey Creek. The driver tried to flee, but was later placed into custody on Interstate 40 east after her vehicle was disabled. While fortunately no one was injured during the accident, some property damage occurred and the Tennessee Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
Analysis performed by USA Today in 2015 shows that over 5,000 bystanders as well as vehicle passengers have been killed as the result of police chases since 1979, while tens of thousands of individuals have been harmed as a result of these chases.
