Knoxville DUI Suspect with “Extensive” Drug History Shows Dangers of Driving on Knoxville Roads, Rights and Options for Victims of DUI Car Crashes in Knoxville Explained

CarCrash10

When Knoxville drivers set out on the road to do their errands, go to work, or get the kids to school, they likely are not thinking about the potential extensive DUI and drug abuse histories of other Knoxville drivers that share the road with them. However, the unfortunate truth of the matter is that in addition to the safe and lawful drivers that commute and drive down Knoxville roads and highways each day, there are drivers who have criminal backgrounds on those same roads, and even drivers who have been convicted with drinking or using drugs and driving. One such example of this scary transportation situation cropped up in Knoxville over the past several weeks, with the arrest of a local Knoxville man with a drug and alcohol history proclaimed by the warrant for his arrest in his case to be “extensive.”

According to local news reports, at the tail end of last year, on December 26, 45-year-old Knoxville man Brent Morgan was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and vehicular homicide. Morgan is believed by the Tennessee Highway Patrol to have been driving while being under the influence and erratically, and swerved into oncoming traffic, tragically killing two people. The warrant for Morgan’s arrest indicates that he “had a recent needle mark on his knuckle and constricted pupils” and that there were “signs that he had used drugs prior to driving.” The warrant also included that Morgan has an “extensive” history of trouble with the law when it comes to driving under the influence, detailing that he has past drug charges. According to court records through the Tennessee Department of Corrections, Morgan also is currently under probation for several drug charges. It remains to be seen whether Morgan will ultimately be convicted of the charges against him, and whether the family members of the two car accident victims allegedly killed by Morgan will file any civil claims.

Civil Claims for Car Accident Injuries Under Tennessee Personal Injury Laws

The case involving Brent Morgan raises an important topic for Knoxville drivers and families to learn about: Tennessee personal injury laws. While there is no such thing as true justice when loved ones are taken from us by the senseless acts of drunk drivers, Tennessee law allows certain surviving family members of victims to pursue compensation for their injuries and losses. There is a limited time to file a wrongful death personal injury lawsuit in Knoxville under Tennessee laws, so it is best to speak with an experienced Knoxville car accident lawyer as soon as possible about your potential case.
