Dump Truck Driver Avoids Injury Following Rollover Crash

Cookeville, TN (January 28, 2021) A man narrowly avoided injury on the morning of January 28th when his dump truck overturned after rear-ending another dump truck on Falling Water Road in the Johnson’s Chapel area. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that the driver was traveling down a narrow and steep road in a Ford dump truck and was hauling a load of rock to a job site when the driver lost control of his vehicle and rear-ended a Kenworth dump truck that was also hauling rock. Following the collision, the Ford driver’s vehicle overturned onto its side and spilled a load of rock. Fortunately, neither driver was injured in the accident.

The United States Department of Transportation has found that 380 dump truck crashes occurred involving fatalities in 2017 while dump truck crashes resulted in 5,621 injuries. One commonality in many dump truck crashes are the large blind spots associated with the vehicles. When vehicles are positioned at the side or immediate rear of a dump truck, a dump truck driver is often not able to see these vehicles.
