Knoxville Man Convicted in 2021 Fatal Drunk Driving Car Accident
Earlier this month in November, a Knoxville man was sentenced in the criminal case against him for his role in a fatal drunk driving car accident that left one person dead. According to local news reports, 68-year-old Knoxville resident Dennis Hill was sentenced in November to nine years behind bars in jail for causing a fatal car accident back in September, 2021. Knox County District Attorney Charme Allen explained to news outlets that prosecutors believe that on September 28, 2021, Hill was intoxicated after drinking several margaritas and got into his vehicle to drive. Hill was on the right side of Tazewell Pike in Knoxville, when he drove partially off of the road for over 200 feet, then accelerated back onto the road into the oncoming flow of traffic. When Hill accelerated back onto the road, he hit the victim’s vehicle, killing the victim. Hill ultimately admitted that he had been “drinking several margaritas” before driving, and his blood-alcohol level (BAC) registered at 0.094 when he was taken to the hospital. Accordingly, investigators believe that he would have been well-above the legal BAC level at the time of the fatal drunk driving car accident, at an estimated 0.129 to 0.164 BAC. Hill was convicted of the crimes of vehicular homicide by intoxication and driving under the influence. The tragic and unfortunate accident that killed one person and sent another person to prison for nearly a decade is just one example of the many senseless and sad drunk driving car accidents that happen in The Marble City.
