The Johnson City Police Department responded to a crash around 4 in the morning on February 27th following an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred on West State of Franklin Road close to Watauga Avenue. Officials report that the driver of a Nissan Rogue with Virginia license plates was traveling east on State of Franklin when the driver collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the road. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 137,000 pedestrians were treated in emergency departments for nonfatal injuries in 2017. One of the best steps that pedestrians can follow to greatly reduce the risk of accidents is to avoid using electronic devices like earbuds or walking while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Each of these factors can distract pedestrians and impair judgment.
