2 dead after multi-vehicle accident on the I-40 in Knoxville

According to reports, two people were killed in a crash in Knoxville that occurred on May 30. The truck accident took place on Interstate 40 near Asheville Highway and involved several vehicles. Reports suggest that lane closures stemming from the crash caused traffic to back up for miles.

The crash involved 6 vehicles, including at least one tractor-trailer. According to Knoxville police, the incident began when a tractor-trailer rear-ended a white car, pushing it into an SUV. The second accident, which police believe may have been caused by the first crash, involved a truck hitting a Dodge Charger from behind. This forced the Charger against a wall and into the side of a semitrailer.

Both the occupants of the white car, a 44-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman, were killed in the crash. The truck driver who apparently caused the accident experienced emotional distress and was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, according to reports. Another person who was injured in the second crash was taken to the medical center as well. No charges had been levied against any drivers in this accident at the time of reporting.

Those who were affected by this fatal crash may be able to pursue compensation for damages in civil court. If the police investigation suggests that the truck driver’s negligence caused the crash, that person might be named as a defendant in wrongful death lawsuits filed by the families of the deceased victims. Through that action, they may be able to receive compensation for damages, including final expenses and lost financial support.
